Cloud computing is increasingly becoming an integral part of businesses around the world. What, according to you, are some of the significant factors that play a key role in the direction cloud computing is heading?
From a broader perspective, the transition to cloud computing is not limited to individual data centers. Software vendors are also quickly adopting cloud models, and even those who don’t currently have their own data centers in the cloud and using third party vendors using the cloud. In fact, many large companies in various sectors, including financial services, have already switched to cloud-based infrastructure.
One of the primary reasons this shift is occurring is the elasticity and scalability of the cloud. It is particularly advantageous for companies in sectors such as retail, where there are significant spikes in demand during peak periods. Investing in and maintaining infrastructure to accommodate these seasonal spikes can be prohibitively expensive. The cloud enables on-demand scalability, allowing companies to avoid this costly investment.
In addition, the transition to the cloud can be part of a broader infrastructure modernization journey, allowing companies to stay up-to-date with the latest technology without the need for significant capital expenditure. Upgrades and maintenance are managed by the cloud provider, shifting costs from capital to operating expenses.
Moving to the cloud also facilitates the processing and accessibility of large quantities of data. By moving data warehouses and other systems to the cloud, companies can take advantage of user-friendly tools and significantly improve access to data, allowing for more informed business decisions.

What are some of the benefits of moving to a SaaS model in the cloud, particularly in terms of data management and business value?
As I consider moving to a SaaS model in the cloud, I am excited about the benefits it can bring. The solution providers are now in the cloud, which means I no longer have to host or maintain the software myself. This leads to real-time, consistent updates to the software, removing the need to wait for months to update my software.
Another significant advantage of moving to the cloud is the improvement in data management. Our data is one of our most valuable assets; leveraging it can improve our customer experience. The cloud provides easy storage and accessibility of our data, allowing us to analyze it and turn it in different ways.
Moving to a cloud solution has also given me access to a range of tools and capabilities that have accelerated our business value. For example, Google Cloud provides us with a retail search capability that can be easily integrated into our frameworks. This saves us the trouble of building a search engine from scratch, and it is constantly updated and maintained for us.
What, according to you, is the best way to explore the full potential of cloud solutions that can benefit businesses in terms of operations and customer experience?
In my opinion, the power of cloud computing lies in its combination with other technologies. Take inventory management, for example. With the help of RFID tags and bluetooth devices, we can now conduct real-time inventory management. We could even use robots to roam around the store and collect data. This information can then be uploaded to the cloud, allowing for efficient inventory management that was not possible before.
Even the introduction of 5G technology can potentially revolutionize supply chain management. Unlike Wi-Fi, which has a limited range, 5G technology, coupled with geolocation services, can provide accurate real-time data on yard inventory. This eliminates the need for manual management, saving time and resources.
Geolocation services also have the potential to enhance the customer experience. By providing customers with value-added services, such as directions to a product within a store, we can improve customer satisfaction. However, it is important to use this technology in a non-invasive manner, so as not to make customers feel uncomfortable.
While cloud computing alone can benefit a business, combining the cloud with other technologies can transform operations and customer experience to a whole new level. With the rapid advancements in technology, it is important for businesses to stay up-to-date and capitalize on the latest cloud-based opportunities to achieve significant gains in both efficiency and customer satisfaction.
What inspired and influenced your career path in technology, and what areas of expertise have you developed throughout your career?
As we recently celebrated International Women’s Day, I took a moment to reflect on my journey and feel immense pride. I remember being a young girl, just five or seven years old, and my father, who worked in technology, never saw me as a girl but as a child with the potential to do great things. He exposed me to my first data center and put me in front of a card punch, teaching me how to type in a program he had handwritten. Looking back, I am grateful for his guidance, which set me on the path to an amazing career.

Over the years, I’ve gained experience in various industries, but my background in technology has been consistent. I bring a consulting mindset to the table, drawing on the best practices from different industries to find solutions for the one I’m in. Additionally, I have extensive experience in change management, program management, and transformation management. I thrive on taking on big initiatives and helping companies leverage technology to achieve their strategic goals.
I am currently working on the ACS Polaris strategy, a massive transformation initiative. Being able to apply technology to support the business in achieving its strategic ambitions is incredibly fulfilling. Technology allows me to solve complex problems in ways other areas of the organization cannot. Overall, I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact.
What would be your advice or some important considerations to keep in mind when implementing cloud solutions in a business?
I believe it’s essential to remember that technology should never be implemented for its own sake. Instead, it should always drive business value. When considering cloud solutions, it’s crucial to think about how technology will enhance the overall business, whether it’s through improving customer experience, operational efficiency, or benefiting colleagues.
Another critical aspect to keep in mind when moving to the cloud is security. It’s easy to assume that once you’ve migrated, With the rapid advancements in technology, it is important for businesses to stay up-to-date and capitalize on the latest cloud-based opportunities to achieve significant gains in both efficiency and customer satisfaction the cloud provider will take care of everything. But this is not the case. It’s important to remain vigilant about cybersecurity and have the appropriate tools and oversight in place to ensure that your data remains protected.
Lastly, the cost is a significant factor that needs to be managed closely. It’s easy for cloud usage to spiral out of control, leading to unforeseen expenses. Therefore, a strong spin-off team is necessary to manage cloud environments and keep costs under control, just like managing data centers. As a CIO or CXO, these are crucial factors that must be considered every day.
