Tell us about the inception of the company.
I am a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. From serving in Army Intelligence to co-founding Oberon Associates, Inc. in 2002, serving as its Chairman and CEO until its acquisition by Stanley Associates in 2008, to incorporating Titania Solutions Group, Inc. in January 2012, my whole career has been in defense services and the federal market sector. When I established Oberon, I wanted a name that could go with the company’s ideology—“pursuing dreams.” The names “Oberon” and “Titania” are both moons of Uranus. With a similar approach for Titania, we added two visionary stars in our logo. One depicts the great success of having provided solutions to our customers at Oberon, and the second star is our belief that Titania will provide excellence in service to the federal government and the Department of Defense. I have been working with an exceptional team developing Titania to make it the go-to employer and go-to “partner of choice” in the industry. We have established ourselves as an emerging small business leader known for providing effective healthcare IT services, cybersecurity, operational intelligence and training support, governance, and IT services for the federal government.
What is the approach that you have, to understand the needs of the customer?
Titania is led by a veteran team of professionals who respect work ethics and have served their customers with distinction. We are focused on taking care of people; be it our valued staff, partners, and customers, or the men and women in uniform serving the nation. The team brings in a broad range of business, technical, and management capability as well as experience with a diverse array of federal agencies. Each member of our leadership team has demonstrated a commitment to providing our customers services of excellence in solving their critical missions. We also take a lot of pride in mentoring, educating, and developing skills of more junior staff through our in-house leadership development program. It is an eight-module training and development program to help build our next generation of leadership by training them about business development, program management and program control, finance and accounting, contracts, human resources, recruiting, and security. Just one set of training modules doesn’t satisfy every employee and their quest for building a career, so we have various components to our career development and retention activities to try to reach everyone. And, it’s our way of guaranteeing folks that they can build a career here, and help them be assured that they work for an organization that’s willing to invest in their career from the very early stage.
What differentiates Titania from similar organizations and keeps you ahead of the competition?
We have been awarded multiple prime contracts from the FAA to provide security, safety, engineering, and program management support services for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) programs.
A small business leader known for providing effective healthcare IT services, cybersecurity, operational intelligence and training, governance, and engineering services for the federal government. We take pride in tending to the critical programs of our important customers
We have an employee appreciation week in January, which falls on the date of our inception. Our high retention rate can be attributed to our high touch culture and focus on people and to our foundation of ethical conduct and integrity.
Can you provide a few case studies that highlight the usability of your solution?
With our team expertise, capabilities, and competencies, we have delivered world-class services in various industries. We were tasked by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Integration Office to build data visualizations of flight activity for seven UAS Test Sites. The FAA was already collecting UAS operational metrics and safety-related information using an existing web-based platform. Our team of engineers discovered a major issue related to the consistency and quality of the data being collected, and we offered the FAA multiple solutions to address the existing data collection challenges. After performing a feasibility analysis of each of the alternatives, we recommended developing a new capability to collect information directly from the FAA Test Sites. Our technical team identified a suitable interim platform to host a data collection system that we developed and deployed using an agile development methodology. Our approach provided the FAA with both an initial, robust data collection capability and an extensible solution that can be rapidly updated as the data collection needs of the FAA and Test Sites continues to evolve.
Irrespective of the industry, cybersecurity and safeguarding information is a priority for all companies. Federal executives require partners who are well-versed and experienced with cybersecurity best practices for supporting effective and improved information assurance practices while following the regulations. The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Intelligence) (OUSD-I) sought to develop a system architecture and working prototype to access, correlate, and visualize a significant number of DoD-wide cyber-related data sources. Titania called upon its two most experienced and technical system/software engineers, including one prior intelligence officer with experience on the Army Intelligence Master Plan (AIMP), to develop a Proof of Concept for a Cyber Resource Planning System, the Cyber Master Plan (CMP). Titania conducted the effort in two phases. Titania’s approach provided the OUSD (I) with not only an initial, robust data collection capability but also an extensible solution that can be updated for data collection and integration needs of any organization. General (Ret) Keith Alexander, CEO, IronNet Cybersecurity and former NSA Director and Commander, USCYBERCOM said, “With the growing cyberthreats, you need a team with cross-discipline technical, operational, and functional expertise to meet the current and future cybersecurity challenges. Titania has that team.”
What does the future look like for Titania Solutions Group?
Since our genesis, we have grown consistently year on year, and our goal is to move forward progressively in the same direction while simultaneously providing more growth opportunities for our employees. Our experienced and tenured leadership team keeps us aggressive in our pursuit of opportunities. As a small company, we focus on our areas of expertise and advance them by hiring people with exceptional skills and contacts and experience in other related areas. We may have started small—and largely performed as a subcontractor in our early years, but today, with our capabilities and improved expertise and performance, we can effectively respond to government RFPs as a Prime, and pride ourselves as always delivering services of excellence. We strive to steer uphill and expect growth to continue including increased prime contract awards. For the future, we will continue to look for opportunities where we can help the nation with its most critical challenges.
