Reveelium has been recognized by CIO Applications Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top 25 Machine Learning Solution Companies - 2019,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the CIO Applications research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with David Ofer, Director Manager.
David Ofer, Director ManagerIn an exclusive interview with CIOApplications, David Ofer, Director Manager of Reveelium, uncovers several interesting insights about his organization’s cybersecurity solutions and services, their unique value proposition, and roadmap for the future.
1) What led to Reveelium’s founding? Can you provide a quick overview of the journey?
The story of Reveelium traces back eight years ago, when cybersecurity grew ever more complex, and the explosion of data was almost impossible to process manually for humans. Having been in the trenches of cybersecurity for a long time, we realized the value of artificial intelligence in the monitoring of the information system. Subsequently, our team discussed with research labs to create an intelligent system that capitalizes on behavior-based detection of threats in an information system. To develop a groundbreaking system based on artificial intelligence, we joined hands with the best laboratories and researchers in France. After years of strenuous effort, we built proprietary algorithm for AI in cybersecurity solutions. This is how Reveelium started with artificial intelligence. Cut to today, the company has reached a point where it has an extremely powerful system equipped to detect unknown threats based on artificial intelligence.
2) Can you elaborate on the challenges that you are helping your clients address in the market?
The main challenges in terms of technology are multifold. Firstly, to analyze and process the increasing amount of data in time is a tough row to hoe. Secondly, integrating artificial intelligence to cybersecurity solutions is very complex as the analysts not only have to deal with algorithms but also identify the key areas of possible threats in the information system. To achieve this feat, it requires a high level of knowledge in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
On the flip side, from the customers’ perspective, organizations just wanted a technology that is efficient and fast to deploy. And when they were introduced to this new technology that is artificial intelligence, its concept was known to them, but its application was not very common in the cybersecurity environment. That made it challenging to convince the first customers of Reveelium to work with such a system, and since we had to tune the algorithms, it was visibly harder for the first customers.
Reveelium has the capability to detect unknown threats that are not recorded in the database
3) Can you tell us more about what Reveelium can do?
Being an early adopter of AI, our team has gained incredible functional knowledge and technical know-how related to how best to implement and use the technology.
Reveelium offers state-of-the-art cybersecurity protection that can detect abnormal behavior which is mostly an unknown threat that has entered the information system. In the current business scenario, a majority of the cybersecurity solutions are a guide to virus signature. Meaning, most of the viruses already have a reference in the database.
In contrast, Reveelium has the capability to detect unknown threats that are not recorded in the database. For instance, if a virus invades a customer’s information system, we can detect it, not on the signature-based rule but with our algorithm that is tuned to the behavior of the information system. Reveelium reads the log files and learns the normal behavior of the information system. The moment that it discovers that its activity strays from regular behavior, it raises an alert for the analyst to check what is going on and to drill down within all the alerting systems.
Reveelium is one of the only intelligent cybersecurity systems worldwide that can be installed on any kind of logs in an information system and can analyze them and detect cyber threats within the logs. And what makes the company second to none is the fact that the behavioral analysis that we do, also works for an end user. The best thing about Reveelium is that it is inexpensive, allowing any company to enjoy the benefits of artificial intelligence.
4) Could you share a specific customer success story in which you helped your customer to unveil hidden threats?
Over a thousand large customers and partners all across the globe rely on Reveelium’s security solutions and one such customer was a bank that needed a robust security system. When we installed Reveelium on the customer premises, it had prior knowledge relevant to the normal behavior of a non-infected system. So when the system and the technology started to analyze what was going on in the information system, it was equipped with the knowledge to distinguish a normal system from one that’s not. Within just three hours of installation of the artificial intelligence system in the bank, Reveelium detected five unknown threats in their information system, including an advanced persistent threat that no other system was able to detect.
5) What does the roadmap hold for Reveelium in the next 12-18 months in terms of your offerings?
To stay ahead of the security curve, a new version of Reveelium is up for release, including an added feature called threat mapping, a diverse view of the threats that enter into an information system. It is based on Mitre, a globally accessible knowledge database of cyber threats. We have also developed a new algorithm that is extremely beneficial for an analyst, especially when they want to drill down within a threat that is currently moving into an information system on this worldwide reference.
The next step in our roadmap is tied to specific use case development. The development of specific algorithms is currently in work for fitting into different business segmentation like banking, insurance, aeronautics, and healthcare domains. We are fixing workgroups with customers and professionals of each area to train algorithms to detect abnormal behavior pertaining to specific working areas.
Our goal is to extend our footprint across the globe. In addition to our partners in Canada, Europe, and North Africa, we are also looking for partnerships in the U.S. and Asia. Most importantly, we maintain an excellent relationship with our partners who are happy to provide their customers with our technology.
