PatientPop has been recognized by CIO Applications Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top 25 Healthcare Technology Solution Companies - 2017,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the CIO Applications research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Luke Kervin, Co-founder & Co-CEO.
Luke Kervin, Co-founder & Co-CEOAfter selling an e-commerce platform in 2012, Luke was exploring ventures in different verticals. At the time, his wife was pregnant, and he accompanied her to doctors’ appointments, where he was disappointed by inconvenient long waits, rushed visits, surprise bills, and an overlooked test report that could have proven dangerous.
“The father in me was very concerned, but the entrepreneur in me saw an opportunity. I knew we could do better,” recollects Kervin.
Healthcare is one of the most valuable consumer services in the world, but there’s a major lag in customer experience and digital convenience in comparison to other industries. Realizing that, Luke and business partner Travis Schneider took their e-commerce background and created PatientPop, a platform for healthcare service providers to grow their practices by improving online visibility, modernizing the patient experience, and streamlining the office.
“Healthcare providers went to medical school to practice medicine, not to learn to manage a business,” says Kervin. PatientPop is defining a new category of software — the SaaS ‘Practice Growth’ solution, which takes on the business and marketing side of the practice so that providers can focus on patient care.

PatientPop’s vision for the company is to partner and integrate with Electronic Medical Records software, capturing 75 percent of the market as a result
By building a web presence, managing reputation, improving search results, and enhancing practitioners’ profiles across healthcare, local, and social media websites, PatientPop customers see increased online visibility, more search traffic, more new patients, and increased retention rates. Digital registration and online scheduling, integrated into the practice’s PatientPop-powered website, make it easier for patients to schedule appointments, increasing conversion rates.
PatientPop also tackles the costly problem of missed appointments by sending automated email and SMS appointment reminders to patients. The solution seamlessly updates all information into an institution’s patient management and record systems, automating tedious processes. Post-appointment, PatientPop gathers quality feedback report from consumers to learn the areas where they can improve, and which happy patients are willing to leave reviews.
PatientPop customer Dr. Benjamin Szerlip’s experience presents an exciting insight into the company’s efforts. Dr. Szerlip, an orthopedic surgeon based in Austin, Texas, was new in an urban, active area saturated with orthopedic surgeons.
He then signed up with PatientPop, implementing the comprehensive practice growth to improve his online presence and search results. In a short period, Dr. Szerlip made it to the first page of Google results! From there, he saw a huge increase in organic search visits, website traffic, and new appointments. Dr. Szerlip’s senior partner, a well-known orthopedic surgeon in Austin, is now a PatientPop customer, too.
PatientPop has grown into more than just a software company; it is a close advisor for newer practitioners with its solutions, platform, and services, allowing it to flourish in the cut-throat competition for market and location domination.
In another example, Dr. Shamsah Amersi, an OB-GYN from Santa Monica, CA, was one of PatientPop’s first customers. She signed up with PatientPop to build a web presence, attract new patients, and establish a strong reputation locally, as she had just opened a practice in town. PatientPop delivered a website for her practice outlining her specialties and services. This resulted in triple the traffic to her website and a 518 percent growth in new patient appointments!
PatientPop is continually iterating, and their vision for the product is to digitize even more elements of the patient journey, such as smart messaging between providers and consumers to reduce wait times for patients and confirming appointments. Other major focus areas will be patient recall, sending automated emails and text to patients for online scheduling reminders to return for check-ups or follow-up appointment; auto-filling appointment cancellations from a waiting list; and seamless integration of digital insurance and online bill payment.
PatientPop’s vision for the company is to partner and integrate with Electronic Medical Records software, capturing 75 percent of the market as a result. Currently, their product is only available in the U.S., but they plan to explore going international — after all, health care, and the desire for a positive patient experience, is universal.
