What are the Advantages of Smart Labeling?

Smart LabelingThe word 'smart' is quickly becoming the most used adjective in the labeling and packaging space.

FREMONT, CA: Fuelled by advanced technology, the functionality of simple things like packaging and labeling are evolving. Businesses are trying to leverage every possible way of engaging with the customer in today's digitalized era. This demand has led to the evolution of smart labeling. With smart labels, brands have discovered new scopes of interacting with buyers. The labels that used to describe products through written information and some contextual designs are now quickly giving way to futuristic labels that facilitate a variety of interactive features. Some of the advantages that different smart labeling technologies bring with them are listed in the following list.

• The Convenience of QR Codes

QR codes are one of the commonly used smart labeling technologies currently. QR codes on labels can be easily scanned using scanning apps available in smartphones.  The QR codes act as prompts for opening a linked webpage or downloading a file onto the device. Most companies are using QR codes to offer rewards to customers. As a marketing strategy as well, QR codes have shown great results for brands by helping them draw customers. Once a customer uses the camera app or a scanning appRFID to scan a QR code on a product label, automated steps facilitate interactions and advertisements.

• Tracking Prowess of RFID

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) uses radiofrequency technology. Placed on labels, RFID can make products uniquely identifiable. The RFID technology offers some major advantages over barcodes and thus is finding a vast number of takers. By creating products uniquely identifiable, RFID makes asset tracking easier and reduces instances of thefts and misplacement.

• Interactive Features of NFC

Near Field Communications (NFC) allow easy transfer of data between devices held in close proximity. Used on labels, NFC has the potential to revolutionize packaging. With the use of NFC, brands can offer personalized interactive services to buyers. Companies can also collect valuable customer data with the help of NFC tags.

The above advantages are enhancing the strategic value of labels on all kinds of products. From customer loyalty to tracking management, everything is poised to benefit from smart labeling.
