Using Edtech to Close Learning Gaps Through Competency-Based Learning

Instead of adding more manual work for teachers, edtech makes it easier by incorporating automated actions to close learning gaps.
Fremont, CA: The pandemic has had a significant impact on teaching and learning around the world. Schools didn't have time to seek the most effective approaches and solutions because they had to deal with many challenges almost overnight. For many of them, it was a matter of life and death.
Considering everything, the most dependable course of action is to prepare effectively for most situations. It also entails selecting the best ways to assist students in thriving (not just keep up with their learning).
Edtech has numerous applications and is ideal for hybrid and face-to-face learning. Furthermore, edtech assists teachers in closing learning gaps through competency-based learning, a method in which students demonstrate that they have learned the skills and knowledge included in the curriculum. As a result, identifying and addressing learning gaps is now easier than ever.
Here are the primary ways educators use edtech to close learning gaps and provide much-needed support to their students:
• Identifies learning gaps
Teachers struggle to understand where their students are on their learning journey. Educators require assistance, mainly because they don't have the time to work independently with each student.
Edtech, which assists teachers in identifying learning gaps, has arrived. Consider a learning platform where teachers can post their lessons and assignments. Each lesson can also be associated with a specific competency, including "identifies the three states of water." Then, each student reads at home or in class, completes homework, and takes a quiz related to the relevant competency. Eventually, the platform will inform teachers about how well each student comprehended each competency. Teachers can monitor their student's progress and pinpoint where they get stuck, which aids in the identification of learning gaps.
• Allows teachers to intervene immediately
Once learning gaps have got identified, there are numerous ways wherein the edtech can assist. For example, when a teacher is in front of a class and notices a learning gap, they may try to explain something again or assign more reading material. This is all well and good, but how well can teachers do it in a class of more than 20 students?
Instead of waiting for a chance to detect learning gaps, edtech platforms notify teachers when it is time to intervene.
• Offers automatic support for closing learning gaps
As previously stated, teachers can intervene by having one-on-one conversations with students. However, given the average class size, they may not have time to complete this before relocating to the next lesson.
Instead of adding more manual work for teachers, edtech makes it easier by incorporating automated actions to close learning gaps.
