The active learning platform for higher education, Top Hat acquires Bluedoor.
FREMONT, CA: Top Hat, a Toronto, Canada-based active learning platform for higher education, acquires bluedoor, a US independent press that specializes in educational content for the sciences in higher education. Details of the transaction were not revealed.
The acquisition includes more than 400 labs and course materials utilized by more than 500 authors. These materials are being transformed into digital courseware on Top Hat’s platform and infused with interactive elements, allowing educators to bring active learning to life in both virtual and personalized classrooms.
The round led by Jon Earl, CEO, bluedoor is a publisher of publications for science disciplines, and its content is utilized for more than 400 institutions in the United States. By converting the print-only content into interactive digital courseware, Top Hat is ensuring that educators who adopt these titles and is now able to engage and motivate students in any teaching environment, whether online or in-person, synchronous or asynchronous.

In February 2020, The company raised $55M in Series D round of Financing. Before the acquisition of bluedoor, the company took over the Canadian domestic higher education textbook business from Nelson, Canada’s largest educational publisher, to expand its broad portfolio of content delivered via Top Hat’s active learning platform.
