Expect low adoption rates of any new technology unless change management practices are in place inside your organization to prevent resistance.
Fremont, CA: Humans have a natural aversion to change. No matter how amazing new tools or technology are, they will disrupt established workflows and processes in your business. Expect low adoption rates of any new technology unless change management practices are in place inside your organization to prevent resistance.
If they can’t see how technology can help them sell more, sales reps are infamous for opposing it. But, unfortunately, adoption rates will suffer until you address “what’s in it for them” in your change management plans.

Here are three strategies for increasing your sales reps’ technology adoption.
Focus on how the tool benefits sales reps
It’s critical for salespeople to grasp how technology may help them with their day-to-day tasks — in other words, what’s in it for them. Begin small. Determine a feature that can directly impact a sales rep’s workflow and teach everyone about it. The goal of any roll-out is to get reps to a determining moment where they understand the benefit. This early success will aid adoption. Roll out to other areas after you have the team working on one portion of the platform successfully.
Sales rep training and coaching
Sales reps must be trained on the essential features and capabilities for adoption to occur. The ideal approach is to first train managers on how to use the tool. Managers that are thoroughly trained and enthusiastic can better communicate their enthusiasm to their salespeople than any third-party vendor could. Internally guided training has a lot of power. Sales reps should participate in user training led by their management team whenever possible.
Because new tools will alter reps’ workflow and strategies, make sure sales training is in place. Organizations that incorporate role-playing activities into their sales rep training and mentoring have the highest adoption rates.
Set clear expectations
Setting internal usage expectations is another method for a successful roll-out of new technology. Determine who is in charge of tracking adoption and holding users accountable for utilizing the technology in your organization. A specific, quantifiable goal must be used to define usage expectations. This aim should be aspirational yet feasible, and you should avoid the temptation of a gradual adoption “ramp.” Make use of your technology provider to assist you in developing fair usage targets and hold your salespeople accountable for meeting them.
