Employers should raise employee knowledge of the risk, design and enforce a zero-tolerance policy for stigma, and ensure that employees have good social ties at work.
Fremont, CA: Employees’ work habits altered in 2020, and the majority of them shifted to telework without warning or knowledge on how long this new work model would last. Meanwhile, due to the pandemic’s wave of layoffs, other employees found themselves working fewer hours or without a job. This abrupt and unexpected adjustment could not have occurred without affecting employees’ mental health and job satisfaction.
The pandemic has had a huge impact on employees’ mental health, in addition to posing a physical threat. The prevalence of psychological anguish, sadness, and burnout has risen dramatically, putting employees’ happiness in jeopardy.

Here are three ways employers can implement to encourage employees’ wellbeing:
Preventing stigma
The stigma associated with Covid-19 has intensified. A type of stereotyping has evolved toward the epicenter of the pandemic, confirmed patients and their relatives, as a result of fear of contagion, either avoiding them or blaming the pandemic on them. This may jeopardize employees’ health and satisfaction at work.
Employers should raise employee knowledge of the risk, design and enforce a zero-tolerance policy for stigma, and ensure that employees have good social ties at work.
Employee training and development
Employees should be trained to adjust to the demands of the new scenario in terms of skills and resilience and their capacity to deal with new obstacles. In addition, managers should be taught how to lead, grow, and support virtual teams.
Sustaining communication and transparency
Employees’ distance from their jobs has grown as a result of working from home. Employers should create a clear communication strategy for their company. In reality, communicating the organization’s actions and how they affect employees’ work is critical for reducing employee uncertainty and fear of the unknown.
Employees should be included in the preparation of these actions, as this will encourage a positive attitude and strengthen team togetherness.
