Some of the world's most significant technology companies have amassed petabytes of data, sorted by artificial intelligence and machine learning, to help political leaders, businesses, researchers, and others understand the Earth's changing climate. For instance, in 2017, Microsoft unveiled AI for Earth to give researchers cloud-based, AI-filtered data. The Planetary Computer, which provided actionable data, evolved from that. Esri's user conference focused on an intelligent geospatial nervous system, an integrated GIS network that shows patterns and trends to assist environmental decisions. Planetary Computer is best for conservation initiatives, with features like global land use and cover mapping, deforestation risk analysis, ecosystem monitoring, conservation planning, and forest carbon risk assessment. Data originates from several sources. The Planetary Computer uses multispectral imagery from satellite measurements, including the Landsat program; air quality measurements from Project Eclipse; endangered species data of biodiversity importance; forest inventories and analysis from the U.S. forest service; climate data from the national oceanic and atmospheric administration; demographic data. It's great to see firms transform with unmanned systems.
