Vertical Industries Using SaaS
Even though many industry-cloud (vertical SaaS) solutions have been there for a while, their share of the $170 billion or more spent on SaaS will increase significantly. SaaS solutions have been excellent generalists for more than ten years.
Unbundling and Decoupling
SaaS vendors have begun to recognize this difficulty in recent years and have modified the pricing and packaging strategies to allow consumers to be pickier about valuable services. SaaS is sometimes provided in bundled form, coupling different capabilities into distinct packages. This delivery method is frequently defined by giving users more features in higher tiers (and higher prices). Many SaaS vendors unbundle products due to this strategy of mixing and matching SaaS functionalities.
Growth of Micro-SaaS
Although SaaS firms may unbundle products to maintain market share, the emergence of micro-SaaS is mostly motivated by the necessity to survive. Many SaaS companies rely on niche SaaS, including add-ons and pairings with larger, more strategic SaaS solutions, because they have not yet made a name for themselves in the market. Consider that there are more browser extensions and app shops for Salesforce, Workday, and ServiceNow than there are Saharan dunes.
Micro-SaaS solutions are specialized, as evidenced by the lopsided ratio of micro-SaaS to users. The Chrome Web Store has over 175,000 extensions (including themes), and Google has only developed and supported 45 of these. 70 percent of Chrome extensions have less than 100 users, but only 8 percent have more than 1,000 users.
Cloud security is driven by SaaS security.
The expectation of modern work and SaaS solutions enabling business-led IT initiatives have made cloud security a primary priority for almost every corporation. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is naturally the main focus of most security initiatives, partly due to the support IaaS offers for everything else, including storage, processing, transmission, operating systems, etc.
Consumption-Based Models are Increasing Rapidly
Cloud computing is cost-effective. A few ways the cloud offers true cost benefits include consumption-based pricing models, customizable packages, control over resource utilization, and reducing the administrative and management burden of on-premises deployments. There is likely to be a rise in consumption-based models leading to a subsequent expansion of the total SaaS layer and its makeup, whether sourced by IT and technical teams or directly by the business.
Amorphous, asynchronous, and asymmetric describe the SaaS layer. It allows for analysis and intelligence to be captured by looking at how SaaS-user relationships function and putting in place the proper controls suited to each organization's SaaS security goals. A change in architecture is needed to secure it based on securing SaaS outcomes instead of securing SaaS ownership.
