Sports analytics and data provider STATS has unveiled AutoSTATS, a new service that collects deep layers of team and player data directly from the broadcast video. The capabilities of AI and machine learning to automate tracking with X/Y coordinates, differentiating players and the ball and coordinating player movements around the court or playing field is leveraged in this technology. Its action recognition tracks the duration of game and player events and organizes data collected quickly and efficiently. AutoSTATS can track deep player and team performance data directly from the video, opening the door to monitor historical games when optical tracking solutions were not available. Historical tracking data from the past seasons will be stores for the top teams, making hundreds of games available for analysis.
This technology has already started collecting tracking data for select college basketball games, where optical tracking are limited during the 2018-19 season. Orlando Magic recently signed a deal with STATS, making them the only NBA team with access to AutoSTATS data which can be used for college scouting.

STATS has started layering addition to AutoSTATS using OpenPose, a product which unlocks new layers of body-pose information, offering a deeper quality of player tracking data like, body position, shot form, torque and other aspects of the game.
