Chick-fil-A and Refraction AI intend to continue studying autonomous delivery in Austin at the Chick-fil-A restaurant on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard beginning in late June, following early testing at Chick-fil-A 6th & Congress.
Fremont, CA: Last-mile delivery is an important part of the order fulfillment process, but it's also one of the most difficult to plan for various reasons. To begin with, last-mile delivery is expensive. The cost of last-mile delivery adds up quickly when one includes gasoline, vehicle, labor costs, and fulfillment and technology expenditures. As a result, last-mile logistics has become a testbed for many merchants. The Robot-as-a-Service platform from Refraction combines self-driving technology, teleoperations, and a delivery robot that travels on the road's edge or in a bike lane, avoiding the speed, distance, and regulatory constraints of being on the sidewalk while avoiding the safety, technology, and cost complexities of full-size autonomous vehicles. Using this method, Refraction can accomplish last-mile deliveries with 90percent fewer carbon emissions and 80% less energy use at a fraction of standard delivery cost.
