Point72 Ventures Comes with a Healthcare Investment Team
Point72 Ventures was founded in 2016 with the backing of Point72 founder Steve Cohen. Since then, the firm has invested in 50 companies in the financial services, artificial intelligence, and enterprise technology sector
FREMONT, CA: Early-stage venture capital firm, Point72 Ventures, has launched a new investment team focused on healthcare. Led by seasoned investor Scott Barclay, Point72 Ventures' new Healthcare team will invest globally in early-stage founders to impact healthcare at scale. Point72 Ventures is a global venture capital firm that invests primarily in Fintech, AI/ML, Enterprise, and Healthcare technologies.
"The current health care system is broken, particularly in the United States," said Matthew Granade, managing partner at Point72 Ventures, in a statement. "We believe that these problems will be solved by technical founders who are dedicated to reimagining how the health care system should function at scale." Point72 Ventures is expected to invest across the healthcare landscape without explicitly focusing on biotech or pharmaceuticals. "We follow the patient and the caregiver journey and will invest in massive improvements to that journey and decision making," added Granade.
Lead investor Barclay has deep expertise in healthcare and the commercialization and scale of deep tech startups rooted in scientific advances and high-tech engineering innovation. Before joining Point72 Ventures, Barclay was a Partner at Data Collective Venture Capital (DCVC), where he created and led the Computational Care practice that focused on backing companies pushing compute into healthcare.
"We must bring a true entrepreneurial spirit, advanced computation and technology, scientific rigor, and a deep sense of empathy for the patient's and practitioner's journey to fix the broken health care system," Barclay said in a statement. Barclay has invested in and served on the boards of numerous DCVC portfolio companies, including Carbon Health, Medical Informatics Corp, and Freenome, to name a few. Before joining DCVC, Barclay led operational and innovation teams at CVS Health, served as Chief Strategy, and Product Officer of Surescripts, served as a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group, and established the London capital markets desk Montgomery Securities.
