Virtual RealityPresenting medical insights with the help of interactive multimedia technologies like VR are increasingly becoming popular tools to supplement in-person education and assessment reports.

FREMONT, CA: After a medical procedure or a condition, patients are often left perplexed as they are unable to comprehend the esoteric medical terminologies. Alternatively, supplying engaging visuals and virtual reality (VR) simulation of the patient’s clinical findings can help them to comprehend their treatment procedures. A platform that presents a customizable VR-enabled interface with a smartphone that demonstrates personalized surgical or procedural outcomes can have numerous practical applications for several diseases and medical conditions.

On average, 310 million medical operations are carried out each year. Even with the physician debriefs, there are patients that leave with misguided understanding of the treatment procedures, either due to insufficient knowledge or disinterests.

Even the physicians may not be able to communicate all the medical information to their patients. According to a study, in 66 percent of the audiotaped cases, physicians forgot to deliver at least one piece of valuable information to their patients.

Medical Information with VR

Presenting medical insights with the help of interactive multimedia technologies like VR are increasingly becoming popular to supplement in-person education and assessment reports. VR also boosts a patient’s motivation regarding their treatment procedures. Further, VR adaptations also support gamification methods that automatically enhance patient’s participation. It can also create life-like scenarios which can help the patients and their families in comprehending the treatment information, effectively transferring the medical knowledge. Patients equipped with a greater understanding of their treatment procedures can also save on long-term consultation charges.

Equipping the patients with a better understanding of their condition also fosters their recovery process as the patients get more awareness on the treatment procedures in advance. Such a setup is especially useful in case of chronic diseases that require a long-term treatment plan.

Another vital area where VR based treatment may be helpful is in chronic childhood illness. Incorporating interactive technologies help the physicians to better care for their patients and strengthen their communications with the patients. Overall, VR incorporation can be a critical step toward the enhancement of healthcare systems.
