FREMONT, CA: Javier Polit has been appointed as the next Chief Information Officer of Mondelez International. The USD 26 billion worth maker of Oreo cookies, looks to bolster growth in a highly competitive and fast-changing snack sector. Polit will be in charge of overseeing the company’s global IT footprint and work to accelerate the firm’s enterprise-wide digital transformation efforts. Polit will report to Chief Financial Officer Luca Zaramella.
Mondelez also has Cadbury chocolate, Trident gum, and Tate’s Bake Shop cookies in its range of products. The company has focused its strategy on three key areas; increasing consumer-centric marketing and sales, driving operational excellence and optimization, and creating a long-term growth culture. Advancing each of these aspects will be highly dependent on technology as the company uses data and analytics to learn more about its customers, optimize global IT processes and operations, and boost sales across physical and digital channels.
“I am very excited to join Mondelez International and help make technology a competitive advantage,” said Polit, who will replace Joher Akolawala, whose tenure included a push to accelerate the company’s e-commerce efforts. Akolawala left the company in 2019, and Caroline Basyn oversaw IT in the interim.
He most recently served as the CIO at Procter & Gamble, where he led a team of 3,700 across IT functions, including infrastructure and enterprise architecture, security, innovation, data science, cloud strategy, and application development. He has also served as Group CIO for the Bottling Investments Group and Coca-Cola North America at Coca-Cola and the VP of global corporate systems at Office Depot. Polit is also sitting on the board of Girls Who Code, a nonprofit that supports women in computer science, and has served as national chairman of the Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association.
