Windows 365 will bring a complete, personalized PC experience to any device from the cloud, offering workers and companies the power, simplicity, and security they need for hybrid work.
FREMONT, CA: Microsoft Corp. unveiled Windows 365 on Wednesday, a cloud service that gives businesses of all sizes a new way to enjoy Windows 10 or Windows 11 (when it becomes available). Windows 365 is a Microsoft cloud-based operating system that streams the entire Windows experience — programs, data, and settings — to personal and corporate devices. Windows 365 secures and keeps information in the cloud, rather than on the device, by design, delivering a secure, productive experience for professionals ranging from interns and contractors to software developers and industrial designers. Windows 365 also introduces the Cloud PC, a new hybrid personal computing category that combines the power of the cloud with the device's capabilities to deliver a fully customized Windows experience.
"With Windows 365, we're creating a new category: the Cloud PC," said Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO, Microsoft. "Just like applications were brought to the cloud with SaaS, we are now bringing the operating system to the cloud, providing organizations with greater flexibility and a secure way to empower their workforce to be more productive and connected, regardless of location."
As the pandemic subsides in some parts of the globe, a new mode of working emerges, shaped by virtual procedures and remote collaboration. Employees need access to corporate resources around locations and devices in this more distributed workplace, and with cybersecurity threats on the rise, safeguarding those resources is critical.
"Hybrid work has fundamentally changed the role of technology in organizations today," said Jared Spataro, corporate vice president, Microsoft 365. "With workforces more disparate than ever before, organizations need a new way to deliver a great productivity experience with increased versatility, simplicity and security. Cloud PC is an exciting new category of hybrid personal computing that turns any device into a personalized, productive and secure digital workspace. Today's announcement of Windows 365 is just the beginning of what will be possible as we blur the lines between the device and the cloud."
Employers can use Windows 365 to solve problems that have existed long before the outbreak. For example, workers expect more freedom and opportunities to work from multiple locations while maintaining data security. In addition, seasonal workers can switch teams without dealing with the logistical issues of distributing new hardware or safeguarding personal devices, allowing the company to scale more efficiently and securely during peak seasons. Furthermore, businesses can easily ensure that specialized personnel in creative, analytics, engineering, or scientific jobs have more compute power and safe access to vital apps.
