Micron Reveals New SSDs to Boost Enterprise Storage Solutions

Micron Technology's Micron 6500 ION NVMe SSD and Micron XTR NVMe SSD streamline operations by improving storage capacities.

Micron Technology reveals two new SSDs, the Micron 6500 ION NVMe SSD and the Micron XTR NVMe SSD. Aside from reducing operating costs and increasing storage efficiency, these drives provide a major advance for data centers as they keep pace with the accelerating data growth. By offering best-in-class performance and enabling a more environmentally friendly data center, Micron 6500 ION offers a superior value over competitive QLC-based drives. As a result of Micron's 232-layer technology node leadership compared to the competition's sub-200-layer QLC technology, the 6500 ION delivers TLC performance at a QLC-like price. When paired with Micron 6500 ION drives or other SSDs, the Micron XTR SSD provides extreme endurance.

The Micron 6500 ION SSD has 34 percent lower average read latency, 58 percent quicker sequential writes, up to 62 percent more 4KB random read IOPS, more than 30 times as many 4KB random write IOPS at queue depth (QD) of 128 and more than ten times as many at QD1, and more than ten times greater 4KB random write endurance (RDWPD). In real-world workload testing for workloads on Ceph object storage, Cassandra NoSQL database, and WEKA software-defined storage, the Micron 6500 ION also reveals this outstanding performance.

Extreme longevity from the Micron XTR SSD enables the trustworthy caching required for applications with a high write burden.
