How can Government Agencies Leverage the Cloud?

Government agencies across the globe are eyeing cloud as an affordable means to optimize their internal processes.

FREMONT, CA: Cloud computing is transforming various industrial aspects. The technology is causing a paradigm shift by offering hosted services along with cost benefits and business innovation. While private sectors have already utilized cloud for various applications, government organizations have also started to capitalize on them. According to a report, almost half of the government organizations are already using cloud services. The two main drivers for the above trend are cost savings and efficient delivery of services. However, when it comes to local or regional government agencies, the goal is to look for innovation that can be immediately translated into returns.

The main motivation of the government to opt for a cloud solution is to limit the development of on-premises infrastructure as well as the expense associated with it. Cloud computing also seems a promising adoption for the agencies when it comes to moving the IT environment to third-party servers. Such an approach eliminates the need for the governments to concern with the maintenance overheads as well as the total cost of ownership of the equipment such as servers.

An equally powerful motivation for the governments to seek cloud services is the need to address the public demands for more efficient and transparent government operations. Moreover, cloud services come at affordable costs, thereby further drawing governments’ attention.

Apart from addressing the needs of the government agencies, it is also essential to assess the capability of the IT department in a government organization. Services of public hyperscale cloud providers are appreciated at a slow rate by the government sector due to compliance and security purposes. However, once the compliance and regulatory concerns have been met, government agencies can gain immensely from cloud services.

The public sector has immense potential for innovation and cutting down on expenses when it comes to utilizing cloud services. Thus, steadily governments around the world are moving towards the lucrative world of the cloud.
