How a Centralized AI Brain can Augment 5G Networks?

By CIO Applications| Wednesday, July 17, 2019

The incorporation of AI and virtualization will enable enhanced management of various telecommunication operations, eliminating much of the latency in the 5G network.

FREMONT, CA:  As the demand for 5G rises in the market, the telecommunication giants have taken steps to augment their offerings with modern technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and virtualization. 5G accommodates enhanced mobile broadbands and vast internet of things (IoT) networks. Shallow latency communication applications such as precision robotics as well as remote industrial control can also be achieved from 5G implementation.

AI can potentially drive the capabilities of 5G, from automating core telecommunication operations to the end-user services. The first three generations of telecommunications were mostly powered by data analytics and big data, whereas AI was incorporated after the advent of 4G. However, telecom giants are looking to shun their analog operations and augment their 5G services with robust AI technology. Telecoms are aiming to develop powerful AI engines to drive all their operations.

As 5G infrastructure becomes more open, the industry will potentially witness a shift toward virtual networks. Organizations will integrate modern technologies such as cloud computing, IoT, and network functions virtualization (NFV). The replacement of vendors and the upgrading of the operational culture will impede the incorporation of connected and cognitive technologies; however, the establishment of an AI engine will enable a quick and seamless migration.

Virtualization can eliminate the latencies involved in online gaming and streaming services, autonomous fleet management, and healthcare services. It will also enable telecom organizations to offer segmented connectivity. It will allow the enterprise to further segment the network for different use cases and services. eSIMs can utilize 5G connectivity to build ecosystems of connected devices across telecom carriers.

Smart home OS platforms will empower eSIMs to enable a seamless operation of the connected devices at home. Hence, mobile network carriers can form effective business models to offer competitive prices and seamless payments. Leveraging AI-powered digital brain will enable the transitioning of connected devices across different network carriers with ease.

Telecoms can leverage the capabilities of the AI brain to suggest personalized services and consolidated payments to their customers across various domains, including payment for OTT devices, mobility, and gaming services. Leveraging a single AI brain to manage all the operations will enable the organizations to offer maximum flexibility to the customers, while also maintaining their profitability.
