Databricks and Cloudflare have partnered to address organizations' challenges in secure data sharing. With Databricks' Delta Sharing open protocol and Cloudflare's R2 storage solution, companies can collaborate, eliminate data replication, and reduce costs.
FREMONT, CA: "Without an open standard for secure data exchange across organizations, companies find it highly time-consuming to collaborate, requiring export, replication, and maintenance of data across many software platforms," said MateiZaharia, Co-Founder, and CTO at Databricks. "Delta Sharing provides the first open protocol for sharing data across diverse computing platforms, clouds, and regions. Today's announcement shows just how much demand there is for this in the industry, with Cloudflare joining the ecosystem. We are excited about how this will push open interchange forward and help all of our customers collaborate more easily."

"We are in the midst of an AI revolution rooted in data," said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare. "R2 provides an amazing value proposition for companies that suffer from vendor lock-in and instead ensures developers retain the power to choose where to move and use their data. The combination of Cloudflare's massive global network and zero egress storage, along with Databricks' powerful sharing and processing capabilities, will give our joint customers the fastest, most secure, and most affordable data sharing capabilities across the globe."
Databricks is committed to helping data teams tackle complex challenges, and facilitating secure data sharing is crucial for achieving this goal. However, many organizations face difficulty sharing data due to restrictive platforms, high maintenance costs, and security concerns. Databricks' Delta Sharing, an open protocol for secure data sharing, simplifies sharing data across teams and organizations, regardless of their computing platforms.
In a significant development, Databricks now supports Delta Sharing through Cloudflare R2, a distributed object storage solution with zero egress fees. This seamless integration allows data teams to effortlessly share live data sets in R2, eliminating the need for complicated transfers or data duplication while ensuring up-to-date information is shared with partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders. This collaboration empowers joint customers to share data without compromising security and privacy while avoiding unexpected egress fees.
