Clean Packaging: Addressing Consumer Concerns Effectively
The food and beverage industry are well known to be one of the largest industries. The processing and packaging activities in this industry primarily focus on sanitation and hygiene regulations. Safety must come first in food packaging where harmful chemicals or tastes should not be transferred from packaging materials to food.
The same principles govern the use of recycled materials in food packaging applications apply to all food packaging. In particular, packaging materials in the U.S. must comply with all applicable regulations and must meet the appropriate purity requirements of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act).In the European Union (EU), materials must comply with any applicable EU or Member State legislation. In this context, safety requirements generally mean that the product is adequately pure so that the food it contains is not adulterated.
With respect to the types of environmental claims for recycled materials that can be used in food packaging, there must be a concern that these materials comply with the legal requirements for their safe use.
For the food industry, clean packaging would include obtaining clarity for everything in a packaged product and simplifying the materials used in packaging. This will minimize the use of chemicals and using the ability to pack fresh food further. Consumers relate to a number of characteristics to clean packaging, such as compliance with regulations or made from natural materials.
In view of clean packaging, it is an opportunity for all large and small brands to tell better stories and shows that their customers' well-being is a top priority. Everything depends on the customer base of a brand and how much it values clean packaging. Clean packaging ultimately helps brands tell a richer story about clean food, building consumer confidence at a time when consumers demand more transparency than ever before.
The main purpose of food packaging must continue to be to maintain food safety, health, and quality. The environmental impact of packaging waste can be minimized by carefully selecting materials in accordance with the EPA guidelines and reviewing packaging expectations in terms of environmental impact.
