FREMONT, CA: Driving service development and delivery, Ammeon offers its clientele with an open source based solution where Cloud and DevOps enhancement project is partnered with Iricent, a Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) solutions provider. The aim of collaboration between two IT heads is to deliver NFV related services to clients adding a hosted Management and Orchestration (MANO) service.
“We are delighted to partner with Ammeon who have an excellent track record providing system integration services to the telecoms industry and a wealth of knowledge and experience in cloud deployments,” asserts, Ger O’Byrne, Co-Founder and CEO, Iricent.
NFV liberates network functions like the firewall and intrusion detections, caching and gateways from the centralized hardware compelling the network functions to run as virtual appliances in software. By virtualization the network becomes more agile and flexible, responds rapidly and smartly to the needs of applications and services running on it. Seeking clients’ reliability NFV releases network functions from the hardware leading to the reduction of Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) included in hardware by running network functions on a single hardware platform allowing easy installation of new applications and services.
Adding MANO in the NFV service, Iricent MANO-as-a-Services (MaaS) platform enables telecommunication service providers to quickly perform test, demo, trail and go-live with customer services which requires only a PC type device in the customer’s premises. Customer’s Virtual Network Functions (VNF) are virtually deployed, managed and operated in the Cloud. VNF empowers Iricent systems by adding vRouter, vSwitch and vFirewall in the VNF catalogue. Fred Jones, Ammeon, CEO states, “MANO as a Services will fundamentally change how network services are delivered at the edge. It is a realization of the promise of virtualized network functions and the infrastructure management capabilities provided by OpenStack. It is an important part of our managed service strategy.”
In this context, Iricent MaaS ideally suits both wholesale and retail service providers, providing a means for rapid deployment of NFV services, comments Ger. The company is also providing services to those customers who desire to deploy the solution in-house.
