Fremont, CA: Secure Medical, a telehealth medical provider, uses age verification technology to eliminate fraud and protect customers from purchasing medications from online pharmacies.
Telemedicine services have grown at an exponential rate in recent years. Yet, before implementing age verification systems, telehealth providers could not verify their patients' ages or identities.
The inability to verify patient identity and age-related information resulted in fraudulent credit card activity as well as prescription fraud for lifestyle and sexual health medications.
"While none of the drugs we prescribe and dispense are life-critical, some, if taken incorrectly or in combination with other medical conditions, could be life-threatening," says Kyle Rao, President of Secure Medical.
Secure Medical now uses IDology's age verification technology to verify patient identities to address the issues. By verifying the ages of patients who use online and call center prescription services, IDology's ExpectID Age system protects telehealth providers like Secure Medical.
The system protects telehealth providers explicitly by:
• Prescription services are only available to authorize and verified users.
• Preventing credit card fraud with stolen cards
• Preventing minors from obtaining age-restricted medication
• Prescriptions for verified patients are processed quickly.
• Customers' health is protected by filling accurate, verified prescriptions.
Secure Medical has reduced identity and age-related fraud by 50% using age verification systems. In addition, the system has significantly reduced the time it takes for verified patients to receive their prescription medications.
"ExpectID Age has proven to be very valuable in bridging the gap of not having the patient present in order to safely prescribe our medications," Rao says.
The company intends to keep using age verification programs to prevent telehealth medicine issues like credit card and prescription medication fraud as one of its top safety measures.
