5 Benefits of Designing a PWA

Web designers and developers are looking to incorporate versatility into web pages as the demand for multi-channel compatibility increases.

FREMONT, CA: Web pages form the interface through which users interact with service providers online. The hallmark of a good page is its design and functionality. With the internet becoming the most preferred medium of communication, companies are looking to ramp up websites. Well-designed interfaces empower companies to attract, engage, and convert customers conveniently. The proliferation of mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, has changed the dynamics of web design and development to a vast extent. Previously, websites were designed with a singular focus towards optimizing the experience of desktop and laptop users. Today, the websites have to work smoothly on desktops and smartphones as well. Although challenging, web designers and developers have crafted techniques which enable the creation of versatile websites. Progressive Web App (PWA) is a method of development that creates a hybrid of web pages and mobile apps and incorporates the best features from both. The following list gives insights regarding advantages of PWA.

• Improved Rank on Search Engines

As the online space gets more and more crowded each passing day, discoverability becomes an essential criterion for web pages. The sites and apps that have higher loading speeds have better chances of staying at the top of search engine results. PWA enables faster loading of pages, optimizing them for better reach. With PWA, businesses can accomplish better accessibility, subsequently leading to enhanced business results.

• Enhanced Flexibility for Users

Given that PWAs are hybrids, they can be used through web browsers or as distinct apps. Thus, companies can include more users with a single interface. This eliminates the need for separately developed pages for apps and browsers, enabling companies to save cost. At the same time, businesses are also able to maintain consistency on separate channels while giving users the flexibility they deserve. The belief that apps have overtaken browsers is a misconception that many companies have.  Experimental app-only approaches have resulted in a significant drop in traffic, going on to prove that browsers still host a majority of the audience who do not want to shift to apps. Conversely, another part of the audience prefers apps, and does not entertain browser-based pages. PWA offers the middle ground by hosting all categories of users so that companies enjoy better outreach.

• Smoother Applications that Use Less Data

Smartphone users do not want to clutter their devices with apps. Websites that take longer to load on mobile browsers are also a big no-no. Lighter applications that run smoothly even with patchy internet connection are ideal. PWA falls under this category. The interfaces load rapidly and consume fewer data compared to conventionally designed web pages. Thus, companies are able to extend a better experience to users.

• Less Investment, Better Development

From the cost point of view, PWA is a better alternative than native apps. Developing PWAs requires lesser investment while it also promotes better engagement and higher inclusion of users. For several small and medium enterprises or those that have just started operations, native app development might be financially unfeasible. PWAs ensure that such firms get web interfaces developed without any compromises on functionality.

• Better Outcomes

From enabling higher functionalities to consuming lesser data and development cost, PWA offers significant advantages. As a consequence, when companies adopt PWAs, they are in a position to derive better outcomes and higher returns on investment. The web pages provide user satisfaction, thus creating a loyal customer base for hosting companies.

Web design and development trends will keep changing over the years, but the popularity of PWA is expected to remain unchanged in the upcoming years owing to the advantages it brings.
