3 Ways AI Can Help Publishers

By CIO Applications| Monday, March 16, 2020

The publishing industry is witnessing revolutionary changes with the incorporation of AI.

FREMONT, CA: Industry leaders like Netflix and Amazon are increasing the bar on customer expectations for personalization. These companies are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide customized recommendations to customers in real-time. Today's consumers have come to appreciate this approach and now expect others, including publishers, to cater to their individual preferences. Responding to these customer expectations, publishers are incorporating AI to tailor content to their readers with the aim of increasing audience engagement, growing readership, and boosting revenue. Here is how AI can help publishers.

• Content Categorization

AI is being used to classify content to make it easier to sort and search. By optimizing search results, publishers can improve content visibility and engagement. Large publishers are increasingly seeking the help of AI to meet the challenge of classifying and organizing the sheer volume of content they have been creating. AI allows publishers to scan an article and create tags based on the content to apply structure to unstructured information. Better organized content is easier for publishers to monetize with readers and advertisers.

• Content Personalization

One of the major ways publishers are using AI is by monitoring reader behavior and suggesting relevant content to them. A recent survey shows that 60 percent of publishers use some form of AI to enhance content recommendations. As audio is now the preferred format for content consumption, publishers are finding ways to use AI to tailor customized user experiences with audio assets. By analyzing the author's name, audio can be suggested to listeners, and this application can be used to reading articles in the language the listener prefers.

• Impactful Marketing

Leveraging real-time reader insights will also help publishers become more agile in their marketing strategies. AI enables publishers to leverage data on the reader to create customized emails, newsletters, and others for individual subscribers. AI makes it possible to determine email subject lines and images that will resonate with each reader and automates the process, delivering the right content to the right reader at the right time.

It is predicted that publishers will continue looking for new ways to leverage AI and provide increasingly targeted personalized reader experiences.
