Massive Networks delivers its services to more than 5.3 million fiber lit buildings which empowers them to provide their solution across the U.S., Canada, Europe and the far East. The following conversation with Paul Mako, CEO and Kevin Flake, VP of Sales & Strategic Alliances sheds some light on their unique services in the IT space. Both of them say, “We are the one connection you need for any and all network providers.”
Can you please provide some insights as to how your services benefit the client?
Kevin: First we need to differentiate the services. There are two types of networks, Public and Private. As the name suggests, the public network is public, which is hackable, and a private network is personal, which is secure. A public network has latency, packet loss, network congestion, and jitter. Once we move the customer data off the public network from the VPNs or SD-WAN connections to a private Layer-2 connection, we eliminate the network congestion, packet loss, and jitter of traversing the internet because it is private. It is like a customer’s private highway. For example, if we are on an 8 lane interstate highway. Each of those 8 lanes handling public internet traffic including your SD-WAN connections (just like rush hour). Now, let’s look at having your own private highway. A direct connection (road) to your offices or connected locations, that’s our Layer-2 connection where there is no network congestion. It is similar to having your own private highway while everybody else is stuck in traffic on the interstate.
Is there are a specific segment or a particular industry you are targeting your solution towards?
Kevin: Our target customers fall in between the range of 10 Megabytes to 10+ Gigabytes requirement. Moreover, we love working with clients who have multiple sites. We deliver Layer-2 services in 181 countries.

What is the process that you follow when you engage with a client?
Kevin: First, we identify the number of locations in which the clients operate. Majority of the time the customer sets up a point-to-point private line, Multi- Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), or VPN session connecting their office or a Cloud provider. Once we identify the client’s process of connecting their resources, we show them how multitasking and a single one-pipe multi-connection can benefit their company. So, we take managing a VPN and multi-carriers off their plate and provide a fully managed service.
Paul: We want to get the message out that efficient and fast networking solutions are possible. Most of our clients have a mindset that the only way to do it is VPN or SD-WAN technologies which are complicated. We offer capable and powerful private networking solution that compared to MPLS is faster and cheaper.
Could you share a case study wherein you successfully resolved the challenges faced by the clients?
Paul: Utilizing our Office to Office connect solutions, we enabled a 12 site doctors partnership to have a fully interconnected high-speed private network and Blended Internet bandwidth across the sites all while maintaining the underlying HIPAA requirements for each facility and their interconnected resources.
When the network was completed, it felt as if all the computers / server systems were present in ‘the other room’ at all of the facilities. The primary internet service is fed from the main facility to each remote site, securely separate from the interconnected private networks, allowing them to manage one primary firewall instance across the organization.
What are the factors that differentiate you from the other vendors in the landscape?
Kevin: Our flagship service One-Pipe Multi-Connect offers flexibility that sets us apart. For example, if a customer faces fiber cuts and outages, we can deliver a 100 Megabyte of network services down one fiber provider, and we can also deliver a 100 Megabyte of network services down the secondary fiber provider in their building, then we can bond the connections for the ultimate amount of uptime.
Paul: One of the most significant differentiating factors is our relationships with the MSPs. They are the partners that we use the most. We manage network services for them, making it easy for them and in return they manage the client’s sites on the ground.
How have the last 12 to 18 months been for the organization?
Kevin: We have built an in-house managed solution that allows us to manage a MSP portal. The interface enables MSPs to come in and query addresses. They can click on the lit building locator, punch in an address and find out how many fibers are in the building. If a building doesn’t have fiber in a particular location, we can do a fiber build for them. We are doing a 10-mile fiber build for a particular client right now, and we can get into some extremely rural areas.
Paul: It’s not just the MSPs. Any Client can go to our website and find out if their building is lit, how many paths/ providers and that’s all from an address and a click of a button, the next click can be Generate a Quote and they are done.
How do you perceive the road ahead for the company?
Paul: Our road per say, looks very good. We are consistently upgrading our networks and facilities to better support the ever growing increase of Internet and network connectivity required by business. Take our OnePipe product and Office-to-Office connect services for example, business are just now realizing the real benefit of true private networks, and still to learn fully the pitfalls of SD-WAN, each just reinforcing the ever increasing need for our products.
