In this interview, Steve Yemm CEO of Labguru shares some insights about Labguru’s ELN software, its unique value proposition, and the organization’s roadmap for the future.
What was the idea behind the development of the Labguru platform? Please throw light on the challenges that the platform addresses.
The modern-day research lab generates tons of data on a daily basis. Given that a large portion of this data is critical for analysis, records, and informatics; the oceanic inflow of data is known to significantly complicate the research lab work. Although, on one hand, a lot of researchers today are employing standard point solutions to simplify their data related engagements, these point solutions are often difficult to deploy, maintain, and integrate and are mostly required to be delivered on-premise in client-server solutions. In order to mitigate this challenge of laboratory informatics we designed Labguru—a single cloud-based application platform to ease the processes of integrating data, documenting experiments, finding data, and tracking the workflow progress in a horizontal manner. Through Labguru, we have acquired the ability to provide a broad, economical, time-sensitive, and horizontal solution that enables us to outperform various point solutions in the market.
What are the various features and functionalities offered by the Labguru platform and how do they benefit client?
The Labguru solution specializes around the functions involved in documenting experiments, workflow, registering entities, analyzing data in experiments, forming conclusions, and protecting intellectual property while complying with prevalent regulations.
With a fair amount of legacy solutions out in the market, research groups utilizing them for long-drawn professional services projects have to contend with significant lead times in deployment. On the other hand, our platform constitutes an economical solution that is easy and quick to deploy and effectively lowers the cost of ownership for the customer. Labguru follows a unique approach of providing the clients with easy access to the platform and enables them to use the application within days and drive rapid business value from it. Over the period in which Labguru is utilized, our clients gain a return on investment usually in less than a month.
In addition to saving scientists’ time wasted on paper and disparate electronic processes, Labguru brings improved cost-effectiveness, compliance, and productivity. Owing to the critical regulatory landscape of the research industry, Labguru is highly compliant with FDA regulations and enables the customer to meet their specific regulatory requirements while also capturing and providing them the intellectual property during their research.

With Labguru, we were able to deliver substantial ROI for ADC Therapeutics and saved their scientist’s time around seven hours per week. In a similar story, Labguru through their one single system provided a replacement to manage all the biologics inside AstraZeneca–a leading pharmaceutical company. Labguru replaced AstraZeneca's multiple commercial and homebuilt systems while migrating the data from those systems to Labguru and had them deployed to almost one thousand scientists across several continents within 90 days.
What does the future look like for Labguru? Are there any project or expansion plans in the pipeline for the year 2019?
Growing at a rapid rate, currently, we have registered a massive revenue growth rate, doubling our mark since 2017. Going ahead two years, we have envisioned a robust product roadmap with an increased emphasis on solving a broad variety of challenges through a single platform. With the Labguru platform gaining significant traction in local markets, we are planning to unveil it to wider international research demography. With an already established global client base, located in the U.S. and Europe, our current aim is to increase and expand our clientele in the regions of Asia, Australia, and South America in the coming years.
