According to Danielle Wolowitz, Vice President, Corporate Marketing at Kyocera Document Solutions America, most companies should begin with documents. She should know. Kyocera Document Solutions has helped thousands of companies transform their document infrastructure, streamlining countless business processes, saving time and money, and usually both.
In an interview with CIO Applications, Danielle Wolowitz discusses Kyocera Document Solution’s inception, growth, research and development in the field of document management.
Can you give us an overview of your company?
Danielle Wolowitz: Kyocera Corporation is a 60-year old, diversified Global 1000 company.Kyocera Document Solutions is actually the largest division of Kyocera, on its own a multi-billion-dollar, global organization.
Kyocera has been granted more than 18,000 patents since its founding, placing it among the “Top 100 Global Innovators” across all industries. As you would expect, innovation also drives everything at Kyocera Document Solutions— the hardware we design and manufacture, the software we develop, and the solutions we identify for clients of all sizes.
There are people whose job is to process hundreds of orders a day. Imagine saving a minute or two on each one
We help companies run more efficiently by helping them streamline all the day-to-day business processes that involve documents: billing, budgeting, processing sales orders, and almost everything in HR and legal. Compared to some other kinds of digital transformation companies may be considering, like digitizing a factory, digital document transformation is not particularly disruptive, and delivers enormous bottom-line efficiencies for only a fraction of the cost.
Could you delve deeper into a client engagement and exemplify the implementation process followed?
We go into each client company and look at all their specific document-related processes. Every company has its own way of operating, so there is a lot that goes into the assessment. And 99 percent of the time we find that those processes could take less time with digital documents. For example, there are people whose job is to process hundreds of orders a day. Imagine saving a minute or two on each one. Apply those savings across the whole company and you are talking about significant improvement to the bottom line. Once people understand the cost of document inefficiency— in terms of both time and money—they get very interested.
Could you give us a case study where you helped a client overcome a specific challenge?
We were contacted by a large healthcare organization. Healthcare is among the more document-intensive industries, so there were many paper-based processes. This company was actually sending truckloads of paper documents to storage facilities, where data was being manually entered into the CMS.
Our solution was comprehensive, involving every aspect of their document workflow. They were especially excited about DMConnect, one of our software products, that streamlines the paper-to-digital transition. Once implemented, their document-based processes took less time, and were more accurate and more secure. In addition, they saved a ton of money on paper and virtually eliminated tracking costs associated with document distribution.
How does Kyocera Document Solutions envision the near future?
We are focusing on four key areas: capture and integration with Enterprise Content Management (aka ECM) products, process optimization, core document management, and cost control and security. In the near future, we envision helping as many companies as possible with each of these key elements of digital document transformation.
