hCentive, Inc. has been recognized by CIO Applications Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top 25 InsurTech Companies - 2017,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the CIO Applications research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Sanjay Singh, CEO and Co-founder .
Sanjay Singh, CEO and Co-founder Started in 2009, Reston, Virginia-based hCentive observed an opportunity amidst deteriorating market conditions to devise a technology solution that can put an end to the insurance-related woes of employers and brokers. Further, state governments and supporting companies, including systems integrators, needed support as the new age of health insurance exchanges was brought into the fold. “We strived to provide a platform or technology, that can help employees, even in the smallest of organizations, to gain access to health insurance benefits,” says, Sanjay Singh, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of hCentive.
The firm’s technology today includes Software as a Service (SaaS)-based technology to support employers, brokers, and state governments. In addition, hCentive provides support services to assist government clients in expanding upon, implementing, and/ or maintaining healthcare information technology.
The company’s work with these states and CMS are just some of the noteworthy milestones in its journey of more than eight years. As Derrick Cobey, Chief Product Officer, notes “Government healthcare options such as Medicaid are deemed unreliable by many, owing to complex policy rules and lengthy processes. However, we have been successful in introducing automation and a fair amount of sophistication to the processes of agencies we have worked with.”
As a part of its roadmap, hCentive looks forward to accelerating the capabilities of governmental agencies in terms of Medicaid eligibility determination, enrollment, as well as services support geared to the overall simplification of Medicaid technology. “In addition, we want to engineer solutions that are innovative and cost-effective as compared to our competitors, and thus leave a lasting impression in the healthcare technology landscape,” Cobey concludes.
Apart from its Government work, for employers and brokers hCentive’s technology provides broad visibility into the health insurance marketplace while eliminating manual, paper-based enrollment methods still in large use today. Their SaaS-enabled marketplace provides a real-time view of coverage options, ensuring employers have access to the full range of options for their employees while also helping brokers better navigate employers through the open enrollment process and their clients’ benefit options.
Traditionally, most of the work at a broker’s end is manual, and the underlying data is scattered in different formats which collectively equate to inefficient workflows, especially during the busy open enrollment period. hCentive amasses all data into one place and digitizes a broker’s business which translates into a seamless operation, from collecting carrier quotes to dispatching the same to an employer and commencing enrollment.
For example, Singh noted one such client had over 5,000 employees in its book of business, but was still losing revenue due to its inability to sufficiently cater to smaller organizations. “The problem lied with their approach of looking at purely technology platforms that had little understanding of actual market dynamics. Their revenue leakages have been sealed, and business has increased by up to 25 to 30 percent since they started to work with us.” Further, to support the client’s requirements, Singh adds that the company has developed a Commission Calculator module that further simplifies a broker’s job.
