Perhaps, it's the technical leads that drive innovation from paper to production. But, those would be too obvious to be "unsung" heroes. Here's a hint. They're also the most underrated, and unappreciated members in IT. If you guessed Software Testers, not only would you be right, but also experienced enough to know that this is a recipe for disaster.Software testers are the final stop before code gets deployed for consumption. It goes without saying that testers are vital to the IT organization. So, how can such an important role also be considered underrated and unappreciated? In enterprises, technology operates in the same manner as other business units complete with mountains of red tape. Teams learn to work within this framework. As a result, people are solely concerned with their piece of the puzzle. Everything outside of that is "not my problem." Software Testers is the scapegoat for all things IT. After a failed deployment, how many times have you heard? "Who Tested this?" "How did this get past the testers?"It's always the tester's fault when there's a bug or defect. It's never the developer, nor the business unit that provided invalid requirements. There are two ways to view this issue: the right way and the wrong way. All too often, enterprises view it the wrong way.Instead of resolving the issue, Enterprises use this as a built-in excuse mechanism. "Why haven't we pushed this code to production?" We are waiting on the testers."Who allowed this code to go to production?" The testers approved itUNSUNG HEROESIT JAMES GROVER, DIRECTOR OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING AND SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT, BANKUNITEDW
