March 2022CIOAPPLICATIONS.COM 19What are the factors that spurred the inception of Altnix?Four years ago, when we started Altnix, we saw an unmet need in the marketplace for open source solutions that give you feature parity compared to other large-scale and expensive products like IBM, Microsoft, HP, and more. Although these products work great, we realized that customers often want an option which is simpler and cost-effective. This very need manifested as an opportunity for us to lay the cornerstone of Altnix. Our open source solutions provide customers with enterprise features at a lower cost and an excellent support system suitable for business use cases. When adopting open source, customers are typically challenged with a lack of in-house expertise and specialized knowledge. This implies that enterprises need a reliable partner to successfully derive the benefits of leveraging open source solutions. This is where we come in. We evaluate possible options in open source and identify products that are suitable for enterprise customers. We build expertise on how to use the product, scale up operations, and support customers on a day-to-day basis. We are making it easier to deploy open source solutions for organizations across the globe. Could you shed light on the portfolio of open source solutions you offer? IT service management involves multiple modules--asset management, help desk ticketing, change management, and more--each with its own functionality. We provide equivalent open source products, including GLPi, OTRS, and many more, to serve those functionalities. Altnix provides open source solutions for end-to-end IT operations, IT infrastructure monitoring, IT automation for on-premises and cloud, IT analytics, and IT service management. All these put together, we deliver an end-to-end open source stack--the complete portfolio of our offerings. To provide IT Infra Monitoring, we work with OpenNMS, Zabbix, Prometheus, and ElasticSearch. When it comes to IT Automation, we leverage Jenkins, StackStorm, and Ansible. At the same time, we work with tools such as ElasticSearch, Grafana, and Metabase for IT Analytics. We select the right open source product when building a platform based on customer requirements and industry verticals. In the next step, we integrate the selected products; based on the integration, we build a complete, seamless, and flexible solution that meets the requirements of customers of all sizes. Following this, we develop a full enterprise stack for customers. After this phase, we dive into the turnkey deployment of our solution. Our experienced team is capable of deploying our solution for small, large, or enterprise-level global companies. We also provide the expertise for managing the solution on a daily basis through a managed service offering. Besides, we offer long-term customer support options. Could you cite a customer success story? We helped one of our customers, a medium-sized manufacturing company, working with an enterprise product to successfully make a shift from proprietary software to open source. The client encountered a situation where the enterprise vendor, the original equipment manufacturer, announced the end of sale of their product. This gave the client an opportunity to evaluate other options, including proprietary software solutions from tech behemoths like ServiceNow, BMC, HP, and Microsoft. The client eventually decided to opt for open source solutions. This was when the client engaged with us and outlined their requirements to get features and functionalities at the same level as their existing product. We provided the client with a clear roadmap for adopting open source by rolling out a solution using GLPi and multiple modules in due course. We were also instrumental in helping the client integrate more open source tools. The client has been working with us for more than three years now, and we have been strengthening our partnership by offering ongoing support. What does the future look like for Altnix? We see a lot of promise and potential in this space over the upcoming years. To help enterprises better adopt open source, we are aiming to work in a consulting mode by providing them with expert guidance and advice. We are a complete solution partner and not just an outsourcing vendor; our approach is to be with our customers throughout their open source journey. On the other hand, we are aggressively expanding into all the markets worldwide while focusing on interesting sales initiatives and engagements. We have adopted a two-pronged sales strategy--serving customers directly and reaching them through our channel partners. In the next 18 months, we aim to see 10X growth in our business. We are also constantly adding more products to the portfolio while providing additional use cases such as DevOps using an open source approach. We take pride in the fact that Altnix is one of the few companies that is uniquely positioned in the market to successfully cater to the open source needs of companies of different sizes
