JUNE 2016CIOAPPLICATIONS.COM6EditorialCDN: Set for a Strong GrowthContent Delivery Networks (CDN) stand as the backbone of an enterprise’s content distribution strategy today. With more and more end users preferring multiple platforms for content consumption, CDN is helping content providers such as media companies and e-commerce businesses efficiently deliver content to users with better Quality of Experience and Quality of Service. CDN is also facilitating organizations to store their contents near its target users, for fast access, and protection from security threats. According to a report from Cisco, 62 percent of all internet traffic will cross a CDN by 2019, compared to 39 percent in 2014. The global CDN market expected to grow from $4.95 billion in 2015 to $15.73 billion in 2020. Server availability is the key driver for growth of this market. Another significant factor is the improved service availability provided by these networks. Vendors in the CDN space are rigorously working towards building cost effective solutions to capitalize on this market opportunity. But, it is not going to be an easy task. First, with social, mobile, analytics, and cloud, the data transferred through CDN is growing exponentially. Due to the huge scale involved as well as the speed at which the data needs to be delivered, CDNs should be able to provide 100 percent server availability, even during power failures or during instances of network and hardware issues. To achieve this, many companies are working on multiple strategies-from Hybrid CDN to multi-CDN approach. Many companies-from Apple to NetFlix- are also experimenting with home grown CDNs to deliver their own networks’ content. As a result, the vendors should be able to offer their CDNs on new, robust architectures for content delivery while meeting the pricing pressures. They should also help the clients analyze and monitor the performance of their contents that get delivered to customers. CDNs that facilitate instant user redirection, 100 percent availability and best performance in every region of the world will stand to gain in the long run.On that note, we present to you a special edition on CDN. The companies featured I this list provide solutions and services that help companies seamlessly deliver rich content to users across the globe.Let us know your thoughts.Sarah WilsonManaging Editorsarah@cioapplications.comJUNE - 29 - 2016CDN SpecialCopyright © 2016 ValleyMedia, Inc.
