Softbase Consulting Services: Customer-Centric Business Intelligence Solutions

CIO VendorOrland Yee, President & CEO
“Microsoft is inordinately user friendly, which makes it easy for any programmer to learn and build applications, but it’s the degrees of competency that matters the most,” elucidates Orland Yee, President of Softbase Consulting Services, stressing on the importance of building technical competency to meet the growing expectations in today’s industries. Enterprise level applications, particularly, demand reliability, scalability, flexibility, sustainability and maintainability—all of which comes from the competency built over time. Being in the industry for more than 30 years, Mr.Yee understands how crucial creativity, innovation and competency are in the software industry. Under his able leadership, the Greenwood Village, Colorado based firm, Softbase, offers Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Data Analytics, Data Mining and Predictive Analytics services built on Microsoft Technologies.

Mr.Yee’s experience has largely helped the company grow by leaps and bounds in the last ten years. With deep understanding of newer technologies such as Microsoft R and other data science platforms, it develops software that improves operational efficiency and delivers effective predictions for its clients.

Softbase’s success in designing and implementing Colorado’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) Program for the Department of Labor (DOL) vindicates its prowess in developing quality software solutions. Before engaging Softbase, the current program often produced problems, affecting the hindrance of unemployment checks being received by those in need. That too, even after DOL spentnearly 60 million dollars in a span of three years with a meretwopercent functionality implemented.

Softbase thrives on innovation in emerging technology space

When Softbase got involved, Mr.Yee interacted with each stakeholder, technology team, and executive to understand the pitfalls. Accordingly, Softbase developed the UI system that today handles $2.6 billion worth of transactions in a year, besides delivering analytics data for consumption by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

While Softbase has been expanding rapidly, the company has also diversified into the medical and recreational Cannabis space. It delivers enterprise class software for the industry under its subsidiary, Kanha Technology Solutions. Recent legalization of cannabis for medical and some states’ recreational usage has put immense demand for tractability software. The Cannabis Management System (CMS) developed by Kanha fills the gap. The company is working closely with business partners to understand regulatory compliance requirements and ensures product tractability from production to distribution.

Currently, Kanha is developing a manufacturing software to help manufacturers, grow operations and dispensaries in the Cannabis industry. Delivered as a SaaS-based web application and mobile app, KanhaCMS helps in tracking availability of cannabis-based products from various licensed manufacturers and distributors. The software aims to serve manufacturers across Colorado, Washington and California, following each state’s stipulated regulatory requirements.

The company builds products only after gathering extensive customer feedback and fully understanding the business problem. To ensure transparency, it collects customer feedback during various stages of the software development lifecycle. This approach helps deliver superior custom written software that meets genuine business needs. “We keep ourselves abreast with latest UX development techniques and apply the same in our deliverables. It serves to keep our customers happy and productive,” adds Yee. So far, Softbase has served customers from technology, government, insurance, and financial services industries and plans to continue that path. On the other hand, Kanha has set itself with the goal of elevating the state of technology in the Cannabis Industry to streamline manufacturing processes, safeguard from misuse and promote public safety.
