How is Technology Helping to Remodel Construction Industry

By CIO Applications| Thursday, January 31, 2019

The construction industry has enormous potential to transform a country’s future. With dynamic advances and rapid evolution, the industry will play a crucial role in achieving a country’s goal. Construction contractors have been acknowledging the tremendous benefits of using technologically advanced machines and equipment. Many successful contractors have been adopting precision measurement systems, GNSS machine control, and geospatial management and collaboration software to improve grading, excavation, and paving. Let’s delve deeper into the usage of technology that has been shaping the future of construction:

Data: Data is the lifeline of many companies across industries. It offers real-time insights into the functioning of machines and equipment. Data allows the contractors to connect with operators and monitor progress through connected devices. Analysis of the data can help the operators to diagnose and repair problems related to machines. Many companies offer applications that allow customers to plan, schedule, assign tasks and get reports in real-time with efficient and innovative solutions.

Constructioneering: Constructioneering refers to the creation of a collaborative system which automates the digital construction process through surveying, engineering design, constructible model development in a connected data environment to reduce project costs and improve construction execution. The system shares all the data that come into the digital models with machines, operators, supervisors, and project owners. For example, a drone can provide significant data about the job sites that are too difficult for manual labor to gather.

Smart Roads: Smart roads can be a revolution that can carry traffic of the future. These roads can act as solar collector ribbons to fuel the vehicle of the future. With the embedded wireless charge, smart roads could charge an electric car. Small capsules of sodium silicate integrated with concrete will fill the cracks developed in the streets.

Internet of Things (IoT): IoT devices collects data in real-time, and send it to the central repository. The central repository analyses the data and offers meaningful insights to the user. It can track a worker’s location and make them aware of any job site hazard or potential injuries.
