ChatbotsFemale Chatbots servicing customer queries is not a rarity anymore!   

FREMONT, CA: Why do chatbots sound female? The reality is that chatbots are saving cash for businesses. Juniper Research's recent results forecast that bots will save banks around $7.3 billion in operating costs by 2023, and financial institutions are conducting their research and building AI assistants accordingly. Most businesses think that individuals better answer a woman voice. Gender bias, particularly for voice-based chatbots, is a matter of concern in chatbot design. Often, these assistants undertake duties that many consider being menial.

Virtual assistants such as Siri, Cortona, and Alexa perform functions that have been given to women historically. They plan meetings, search for data, and are intended for communication in general. However, the proliferation of bots with female names raises questions as to whether they could also perpetuate gender stereotypes, especially about the concept of females in assistants' role.

It may seem ironical to assign gender to a piece of technology. But a gender-neutral voice is not likely to operate either. Devices are not a female voice by default; they are not even supposed to have a default. They should give a choice to customers, enabling them to decide what they are most likely to resonate with and create adjustments quickly and easily.

As we step into a new age of automation, technology will continue to help us as we move around the globe in many respects. It's essential to remember that this is a role that anyone — man or a woman — or even an AI that's digitally enhanced can play.
