The Smart City idea has been actively involved for a long time. Cities are identified as smart cities of the future. Smart cities can profoundly change our lives at many levels, like less pollution, waste, traffic problems, and energy savings, at least theoretically. Although the outlook seems mouthwatering, at least for a number of reasons the implementation of the smart city concept has become sporadic across the world. Whatever the stage in the world of smart city introduction, big data and the Internet of Things (IoT) have the potential to drive the implementation.
Cities at least need one common thread to become a smart city. All of them need meaningful data to base their decisions in the long term. Smart City managers can use big data analyzes to supervise and foresee the urban phenomena in novel ways by adding sensors across city infrastructures and making new data sources–including customers via their mobile devices. Smart cities are using IoT devices to collect and process data in a particular field effectively. Smart city sensors and connected devices obtain data from different intelligent city gates in a city and then evaluate it for smart decision-making.
The development of smart cities relies on how companies share and analyze the huge amount of data they produce. If companies in both the private and the public industry do not share key information in real time, neither automating applications nor software solutions that constitute a city and its infrastructure's' smart' capabilities can be developed. The sharing of data is both a necessity for Smart City installations and an opportunity. It is evident that data sharing is an important aspect of every Smart Cities plan throughout departments and platforms.
Quick data exchange via APIs and data markets, together with the ability to easily add eco-partners, are critical features of any smart city platform. Data sharing should allow the sharing of cloud-based data. It enhances privacy, interoperability, safe data sharing, agile app development, and testing. Also, it should enable people from many different roles to understand and manipulate data to create other solutions.
Big data will take the lead in ensuring urban connectivity. These innovations will play a significant role in creating the future city.
