A Security Breach that Victimized 100 Million Users: Here's what to know

Many online users have been receiving emails from popular social media and e-commerce giants. Recently, Amazon customers have received a mail regarding their technical error which leads to the disclosure of customer details, including their names, email IDs and other personal information. But, Amazon confines it as a technical error and not a security breach. This made Amazon’s customers believe that they are in safe hands.
Quora, founded by Angelo and Charlie Cheever, two former Facebook employees, has also been hit by a security breach, which lead to the disclosure of information of around 100 million users. Many details, including name, mail ids, and other information have been compromised. Quora was affected by unauthorized access of the malicious third party company. The hackers also had access to the questions and answers, upvotes, and comments from the users.

Comments left anonymously in the Quora platform remain unchanged by the recent data breach. Quora said that it was trying to logging out the affected users from the portal in order to prevent further damage. It also added that it did not affect the question and answer flow of the site. It also has been in the process of notifying the users regarding this breach. Quora has assisted the digital forensic team in helping them sort the problem.
Quora was involved in notifying their users regarding the data breach. It also stated that it does not involve in taking private information of the users. Quora users now have to log in to their account, and it is advisable to change their passwords in order to be safe from hackers. Some users have logged in to Quora using their Google or Facebook accounts. In such cases, the users have to create separate passwords for the Quora account. If the users wish to delete their account, they can do so in the privacy settings. After the grace period of around 14 days, the account will be deleted, thereby erasing all the personal information and account information from the Quora database.
